This year’s event comes amid a community-wide struggle for Chinatown’s existence, organizers said.

The march comes as Philadelphia City Council is expected to debate legislation on the proposal this fall.

The $1.55 billion development requires enabling legislation for demolition and construction to start. The team says it needs those approvals by the end of the year.

The results come as the team seeks the necessary legislation to move forward with demolition and construction.

The youth-led arts center, based in Philadelphia’s Chinatown, offers young people a safe space to learn about the arts and their cultures.

Tuesday’s announcement featured cheerleaders, a drill team and the franchise’s mascot.

"We will finally be repairing a historic wrong,” said U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle.

As lions danced and people marched, residents and activists within Chinatown voiced their opposition to the proposed Sixers arena.

More than a hundred designers, planners, professors and local residents came together Saturday to explore new visions for the Market Street corridor.

The endorsement is part of a broader effort to execute a community benefits agreement the team wants to finalize before construction starts.

The Sixers originally hoped to be moving toward construction in June, but have since delayed the franchise’s self-imposed timeline twice.
