Florida residents and officials were assessing the damage after powerful Hurricane Milton brought strong winds, heavy rains and tornadoes.

The storm tracked to the south in the final hours and made landfall as a Category 3 storm Wednesday night in Siesta Key, about 70 miles south of Tampa.

The warming climate boosted Helene's wind speeds by about 13 miles per hour, and made the high sea temperatures that fueled the storm 200 to 500 times more likely.

Before this Atlantic hurricane season started, forecasters said everything lined up to be a monster busy year.

Milton has strengthened into a major hurricane on a path toward Florida not even two weeks after Hurricane Helene swamped the state's coastline.

“Dangerously hot conditions” are in the forecast. A Code Orange is also in effect due to poor air quality.

Flash flood watches and advisories were in effect for areas of the Delaware Valley. At Manasquan Inlet in New Jersey on Saturday, a fisherman washed off the north jetty.

Officials in Tioga County in north-central Pennsylvania said Saturday that a search and rescue operation was going on for one person unaccounted for in the Knoxville area.

Episodes of heavy rain and damaging wind are possible Friday. Sunny skies should return Saturday.

Some areas have already seen a month’s worth of rain this week.

Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses, per the National Weather Service.
