PlanPhilly picked for Azavea’s Summer of Maps
Today Azavea announced the winners of its inaugural Summer of Maps, a 12-week fellowship that pairs budding GIS analysts with nonprofit partners to work on a specific geo-spatial analysis project. We are proud to share that PlanPhilly was selected as one of four project partners for this year’s program.
PlanPhilly will be working with Ms. Nse Umoh Esema who will come to Philly in June after graduating from MIT with a Masters in City Planning. She will work with us to visualize the impact of Philadelphia’s Neighborhood Transformation Initiative (NTI) on property vacancy, use, and values now that more than 10 years have passed since the program started. We hope that our project will add dimension and context to Philadelphia’s current debate about vacant property. Ms. Esema will also be working with the Campaign for Working Families on a project to help working people manage their personal finances.
A Penn Environmental Studies graduate student, Ms. Angela Sakrison, was also selected for the Summer of Maps program. She’ll be working with the National Parks Conservation Association “assessing the impact of fences on patterns of wildlife migration in Grand Teton National Park; and with Stroud Water Research Center on evaluating the impact of vegetation changes in the riparian buffer on stream geomorphology and the fish community.”
We’re thrilled to be a part Azavea’s first Summer of Maps and look forward to sharing more about our project down the road.
