A federal advisory committee voted to put adults 75 and over and frontline essential workers next in line for COVID-19 vaccines.

Public health experts say the shots — and others in the pipeline — are the only way to stop a virus that has been spreading wildly.

Delaware is slated to receive almost 20,000 doses of the two-shot coronavirus vaccine this week. But it won’t be enough for everyone.

In remarks after his shot, Pence called the speed with which the vaccine was developed "a medical miracle.”

The FDA is expected to follow the recommendation for the vaccine from Moderna and the National Institutes of Health.

Residents of Delaware nursing homes have accounted for more than half of coronavirus-related deaths, but fewer than 1 in 25 cases.

Vaccines are not expected to be widely available to the public for months, according to health officials.

"Given the public health emergency, FDA is advising that it is acceptable to use every full dose obtainable from each vial," the FDA said.
