Vehicles parked on sidewalks and blocking curb ramps are now being ticketed by the Philadelphia Parking Authority. Enforcement started Monday.

‘Right-of-way’ advocates call for quick permitting of street-narrowing and public benches

Come July 1, vehicles with illegal tints — more than 70% visible light transmittance — will be subject to a $100 parking ticket.

The funding will go toward renovations of the Valley Green Road Bridge in Wissahickon Valley Park and the Bells Mill Bridge near Morris Arboretum.

“We will continue to listen to our riders and stakeholders to ensure that our network provides equitable access for all,” SEPTA CEO Leslie Richards said.

The effort will include crews dedicated to neighborhood cleanup and more trash cans on city streets.

The northbound lanes of the highway had been closed since April 1, when a tractor-trailer struck the bridge around 1:30 p.m., forcing the closure of I-95 NB.

The Conrail bridge repairs in Port Richmond are expected to be completed by the weekend. I-95 NB remains closed.

PennDOT is advising drivers to avoid the closure areas and warns about the possibility of significant backups on I-95.

The warning period starts Monday and fines will be issued beginning April 29.

Officials said about 350 members of the “Party for Socialism and Liberation” had rushed onto the highway on Saturday, disrupting traffic.

After nearly matching a record for highway deaths in 2022, the numbers dropped last year. But state leaders warn warmer days often bring a rise in fatalities.

Radio calls exchanged between first responders when the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed show a coordinated response.

Officials say a police cruiser and another vehicle collided.

The parking authority will hire 30 new parking enforcement officers to focus on ticketing vehicles blocking sidewalks and curb ramps.
