Bad behavior at the office

Listen 00:48:39

Guests: Christine Porath and Nancy Rothbard

Did you ever work with a jerk — someone who was downright mean, rude or disrespectful? Or have you ever been snarky or dismissive with a colleague? Bad behavior at work often goes unreported and unnoticed by those at the top but, in fact, incivility at the office takes a toll on employees and a company’s bottom line. Bullies affect our motivation, productivity and our moods, and oftentimes the stress and anxiety that results carries over to our relationships at home. Georgetown management professor CHRISTINE PORATH studies incivility in the workplace and says that for a variety of factors, it is on the rise. She joins us along with Wharton professor NANCY ROTHBARD to talk about the importance of “being nice” at work and how to deal with those that aren’t.
