Heavy rain possible for the Philadelphia-region Sunday night into Monday
Tropical Storm Bonnie is expected to make landfall Sunday morning in South Carolina.
For Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey we should see some moisture from Bonnie arrive Sunday and continue into Monday. AccuWeather forecasters say a storm system moving into our region from the West could “pull it northward.”
Light rain could begin late Sunday morning in Rehoboth, Delaware and Cape May, New Jersey. The best sunshine will be in the morning and giving way to a cloudy afternoon.
Areas further north, including Philadelphia and Atlantic City, could see rain starting after 2 p.m. High temperatures will in the 80’s further inland with 70’s along the shore.
The National Weather Service says most of the heavy rain fall will arrive Sunday night. The latest system could bring thunderstorms that will bring locally heavy rain, which could produce flooding in some areas. Total rainfall between Sunday night and Monday night will be one to two inches.
Tropical Storm Bonnie formed Saturday afternoon about 125 miles from Charleston, South Carolina, and was moving northwest near 10 mph with top sustained winds of 40 mph, forecasters said.
Bonnie is the season’s second-named tropical storm, emerging just four days before the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season, the National Hurricane Center in Miami added. No evacuations have been ordered at this time.
Bonnie is expected to move onshore south of Charleston sometime Sunday morning, then turn northeast and slowly dissipate.
