VIDEO UPDATE: Delaware delegation praises operation that killed Osama bin Laden

Delaware’s Washington delegation congratulates those who are responsible for carrying out the mission that led to the death of Osama bin Laden.

Delaware’s senior Senator Tom Carper (D) was in the first year of his first term when the September 11th, 2001 attacks were carried out.  “I want to offer my congratulations to the President, his administration, and our brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Services and counter-terrorism forces.  This is remarkable news, and a testament to their skill and dedication,” Carper said in a statement.  He added “this is not the end of our efforts to fight terrorism and ensure a safer America and a safer world, but this is an important victory in this effort.”

“This is a momentous development for our country,” said Senator Chris Coons (D) in a statement released early Monday.  “President Obama’s announcement that bin Laden has been killed is a tribute to the hard, dedicated work of our armed forces.  I hope his death will both make the world safer and speed the day when our troops can return home.”

Congressman John Carney (D), in a statement, said “this is a day to remember – an important milestone in the ongoing war on terror.  This should strengthen our resolve as we continue to protect the nation from serious threats from around the globe.  We must remain vigilant in an extremely dangerous  world.”
