
Emily Neil is a digital content producer for WHYY News.
She has been working as a journalist in Philadelphia since 2018. Her work has been published in AL DÍA News, Billy Penn, Generocity, IJNET, The New York Times, The Philadelphia Citizen, ¡Presente! Media, The Trace, and WHYY News, among other outlets.
Emily is co-host of “El Café de la Tarde,” a weekly Spanish-language show for Philatinos Radio in South Philly, and works as an editor with Global Press Journal. She researched and reported on gun violence resources in Philadelphia for The Trace’s Up the Block initiative from 2020 to 2022. Emily is currently a 2022-2023 Religion News Service/Interfaith America fellow.
Prior to moving to Philadelphia, Emily worked as a communications officer for SERES, a Guatemalan nonprofit organization focused on youth leadership and sustainability education in Guatemala and El Salvador.
Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Emily received her master’s degree in journalism from Columbia Journalism School in 2016. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Middle Eastern studies and a minor in Spanish and Latin American studies from Barnard College in 2014.
