N.I.C.E. FAQ
WHYY’s News & Information Community Exchange (N.I.C.E.) is a mutual aid, journalism collaborative funded by the Knight-Lenfest Local News Transformation Fund.
What is the goal of N.I.C.E.?
The goal of N.I.C.E. is to create a mutual aid journalism collaborative that connects grassroots content creators with WHYY in a network that increases their capacity to produce programming, reach a broader audience and make their work sustainable. Read more about the mission of N.I.C.E.
Who can become a N.I.C.E. partner?
The ideal N.I.C.E. partner is someone grounded in the community who has been creating news and information content for a particular audience or with a unique perspective that isn’t typically seen in mainstream news. See our list of current N.I.C.E. partners.
How does WHYY benefit from this?
WHYY benefits by connecting with trusted community members who become sources for breaking news and information in communities and neighborhoods typically left out of mainstream news. By sharing the voices and perspectives of our partners, WHYY’s audience and the Philadelphia region will benefit from seeing and hearing a more accurate representation of our city.
Partners will benefit from the experience, resources and access that WHYY provides. In turn, WHYY will benefit from a more diverse array of sources, content creators and audience members.
Are partners compensated for participating?
Partners will receive a stipend for attending regularly scheduled meetings, participating in professional development sessions and connecting WHYY with sources in the community.
Does WHYY own the content created by N.I.C.E. partners?
WHYY does not own any content the partners create for their own platforms while participating in N.I.C.E. Any content created for WHYY by N.I.C.E. partners will be done so under contractual agreement.
