Search underway for swimmer near North Wildwood, NJ

Rescuers are searching for a man who was in distress in the ocean near Hereford Inlet in southern New Jersey.

North Wildwood police attempted a rescue early Tuesday, but could not reach him.

A witness reported seeing a man in distress around 6:50 a.m.

The victim is described as a white male, approximately 40 years old with brown hair.

Agencies involved with the search include the North Wildwood police and fire departments and Beach Patrol; New Jersey State Police and the U.S. Coast Guard.
