Philly Painting: A conversation with Dre Urhan and Jane Golden
Friday, October 19, 5:30pm-7:30pm. University of the Arts, Terra Building, 211 S. Broad Street, Caplan Recital Hall, 16th Floor. Haas & Hahn’s Philly Painting project, a huge public art project that has transformed the facades of buildings along a three-block section of Germantown Avenue, is almost complete. Join Mural Arts Program Executive Director Jane Golden and Dre Urhahn as they discuss “how neighborhoods are valued and defined, the impact of art as a catalyst for positive change and commercial potential, and will discuss the architectural, human and logistical challenges inherent in a project of this scale.” Free, registration suggested. Schuylkill River Park Fall Festival and Bridge Dedication
Saturday, October 20, 11am-3pm. Schuylkill River Park. Friends of Schuylkill River Park is hosting their annual fall festival in conjunction with the opening ceremony of the new pedestrian bridge over the CSX tracks to connect Schuylkill River Park to Schuylkill Banks. Rain Date: Sunday, October 21.
AIDS Walk/Run Philly
Sunday, October 21, Run starts at 8am, Walk begins at 9am. Begins at Art Museum steps. Join thousands of people in a 12K walk or 5K run as part of the region’s largest fundraising and advocacy event. The route starts at the Art Museum, heads up Kelly Drive, crosses the Schuylkill at the Falls Bridge, and returns to the museum via Martin Luther King Drive.
Plenty for the Planet: Sustainable Food and a Well-Fed World with special guest Anna Lappé
Sunday, October 21, 6-8:30pm. Academy of Natural Sciences, 1900 Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Discuss the role of local, sustainable food systems in addressing the root causes of hunger with writer Anna Lappé and local experts. The evening will also feature a reception with local beer and food tastings. Reception at 6pm ($12, $10 for Academy members), free program at 6:30pm. Register online.
