New Jersey gas prices up slightly

Motorists are seeing slightly higher prices at the pumps in New Jersey.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gas in the state on Friday was $1.98, up 2 cents from last week. But that’s much lower than the price from a year ago, when motorists were paying $3.08.

The price increase ends a 15-week stretch where pump prices had fallen in New Jersey.

The national average price on Friday was $2.32, up 3 cents from last week. But that’s also much lower than the national average from a year ago, when motorists were paying $3.25.

Analysts say pump prices will likely hold steady or rise slightly in the coming weeks, mostly due to maintenance work at refineries.
