Michael, Sophia most popular baby names in NJ

Michael and Sophia are the most common baby names in New Jersey. The state Department of Health annual survey finds Michael has been tops among baby names in the Garden State for at least the past decade.

For girls, NJ.com reports, it’s either been Isabella or Sophia (spelled with a “ph”) since 2008.

The other most popular names for baby boys in 2014 were, in order, Matthew; Joseph; Liam; Daniel; Jacob; Noah; Alexander; Ethan and Anthony.

For girls, the other most popular names were Isabella; Olivia; Emma; Mia; Ava; Emily; Sofia (spelled with an “F”); Abigail and Madison.
