Philadelphia voters turned down a measure that would have allowed city politicians to run for new positions without resigning from their current positions. Newsworks has more on the controversial ballot question voters rejected Tuesday that would have overturned the city’s longstanding “resign to run” rule. 

Demolition work at 15th and Walnut has cleared most of the three buildings that stood on the corner. NakedPhilly has updated renderings of the commercial building that will replace the former stores, and TrueLook.com has a time-lapse of the demolition work. 

Earlier this week the Philadelphia Housing Authority hired Domus Inc. to manage a $20.9 million contract to rehabilitate the Norman Blumberg Apartments in North Philly. According to the Philadelphia Business Journal, Domus will renovate a senior-housing tower, construct 57 new rental homes and design new streets in the neighborhood. 

East Passyunk Crossing Civic Association voted to expand its eastern boundary from 8th Street to 6th Street. The EPX civic now covers the area from Broad to 6th streets and Tasker to Snyder streets. Four blocks of uncovered territory still remain (Mifflin to Snyder and 4th to 6th streets).

A South Philly game developer launched Soulfill, an iOS game, that has players make eye contact with strangers and record each experience. The game was developed with the subway in mind – as a way to pass time while waiting for, say, the El and to encourage contact with strangers. TechnicallyPhilly admits that the game sounds creepy but says “There’s something human about it that’s nice though, too.”

Yesterday we told you the baby Peregrine falcons nesting on City Hall were banded. Today The Inquirer reports that three members of a bridge repair crew have been charged with harming a nest of Peregrine falcons under the Girard Point Bridge in 2011. The men are charged with ignoring work restrictions in place to protect the nest and then lying about their actions.
