Man trying to help crash victim is struck, killed by pickup

Authorities say a driver who witnessed a hit-and-run accident was killed when he was struck by a pickup truck on an interstate highway in central New Jersey.

The accidents both happened around 6:15 a.m. Saturday on a stretch of I-195 in Hamilton Township.

Police say the hit-and-run accident occurred in the westbound lanes. The impact sent one vehicle into the eastbound lanes, but the driver of that vehicle wasn’t injured.

The good Samaritan saw the crash occur and stopped to see if the victim needed help. But he was struck by the pickup as he got out of his vehicle.
