Firefighter, son face murder charges in beating

Mark Wallace, who was severely beaten at Knights and Fairdale roads April 8, has died of his injuries. And now a Philadelphia Firefighter and his son face murder charges.

Wallace, 54, got into an argument with firefighter Gerard Shaffer when Wallace crossed in front of Shaffer’s car. Wallace, Shaffer and Shaffer’s son (also named Gerard) began arguing over who had the right-of-way at the intersection, when the Shaffers got out of the car.

According to reports, the father and son beat Wallace then left the scene. Wallace died yesterday after being in a coma resulting from serious head injuries.

Shaffer and his son live nearby the crime scene on the 4100-block of Farmdale Rd.
