Blue skies aid in turning Wilmington ‘green’

The Wilmington St. Patrick’s Day parade was postponed Saturday because of the rain, but turns out the rain date worked out just fine.

That’s because the rain date fell on the actual St. Patrick’s Day.  The parade is the annual fundraiser for the St. Patrick Center, which serves low income and homeless people on Wilmington’s Eastside.  In the two decades-plus of the event, over $2 million has been raised.

The morning kicked off with a breakfast and then it was time to begin the parade, which began as the morning rush was tapering off. But, anyone who sat in traffic on King Street trying to get past the parade’s end at the Doubletree hotel knew it was not your average morning.
