Authorities: Man charged in fatal stabbing of homeless man in NJ

A southern New Jersey man accused of fatally stabbing a homeless man last month has been charged with aggravated manslaughter.

Cumberland County prosecutors say 24-year-old Pasqual Diego, of Bridgeton, also faces a tampering with evidence count and weapons offenses. His bail was set at $750,000 and it wasn’t known Saturday if he has retained an attorney.

Diego allegedly stabbed city resident Abdon Garcia-Cruz in the head on Feb. 1. The victim was found bleeding on the porch of Bridgeton home and was taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later.

A motive for the attack has not been disclosed, but authorities have said it occurred behind a nearby commercial site.
