Why your online purchases could get more expensive

Do you shop online?  If so, your purchases could get a little more expensive.  The Senate passed the Marketplace Fairness Act yesterday which will force Internet retailers to collect sales tax on all goods bought online, but the bill is expected to face tougher opposition in the House.  Proponents say it’s about time that online stores have to compete fairly with brick and mortar shops.  And the sales tax will also be a welcome revenue source for cash-strapped states.  Opponents argue that imposing the tax is too onerous for small web retailers and could drive many out of business at a time when economic growth is crucial.  Today on Radio Times, Marty debates the Internet sales tax with MICHAEL MAZEROV, a senior fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and MEGAN MCARDLE, special correspondent for Newsweek and The Daily Beast covering business, economics, and public policy.
