Coins, stamps, records, beanie babies, lunchboxes – if it’s been mass-produced, someone collects it. In fact, the act of collecting is older than museums. But what compels people to collect the things that they do? And when does light-hearted collecting cross into the problem-area called “hoarding?” Today, we look at what drives the collector with RONALD BISHOP, Professor of Communications at Drexel University (and collector of miniature football helmets), and RANDY O. FROST, the Harold and Elsa Siipola Israel Professor of Psychology at Smith College. We’ll also be joined by DANIELLE ARNET, who writes the “Smart Collector” column for Tribune media.
