The Fallout of Freddie Gray

Baltimore is still dealing with the fallout from the death of Freddie Gray. The State’s Attorney of Baltimore announced Friday that charges will be filed against six Baltimore City police officers involved in Gray’s death. This is the latest development in what has been an emotional rollercoaster for the city of Baltimore, which last week saw varying forms of demonstrations, protests, as well as a city-wide curfew. We spend our first hour of Radio Times today examining the situation in Charm City from a few different perspectives. First, we’ll speak with SEAN YOES, host of the radio program First Edition on WEAA, about what’s transpired there, and what officials and residents are feeling about it. Then, we’ll examine “The Law Enforcement Officer’s Bill of Rights,” which has clouded the investigation into Gray’s death, with The Marshall Project’s ELI HAGER, who will fill us in on the bill and others like it around the country. Finally, we speak with LORIE FRIDELL, associate professor of criminology at the University of South Florida, about the implicit biases of police officers, and what can be done to correct them.
