Jonathan Zimmerman’s “Too Hot To Handle: A Global History of Sex Education”

Listen

Guests: Jonathan Zimmerman and Julie Metzger

[From the Radio Times archive] In this hour of Radio Times, JONATHAN ZIMMERMAN joins us to discuss his new book Too Hot To Handle: A Global History of Sex Education. Zimmerman traces the history of international sex education. Born in the West, sex education spread throughout the world over the course of the 20th century. While it is currently addressed widely across the globe in official school curriculum, the subject remains controversial and, as he argues, still hasn’t found a solid foothold. We’ll also hear from JULIE METZGER, a nurse and co-founder of Great Conversations, a group that features “classes and presentations on subjects dealing with puberty, sexuality, parenting and other topics surrounding adolescents to families, teens and professionals.” She’ll describe her work, how she developed her sex education curriculum, and how it’s received. Marty spoke with them earlier this year.
