Thousands of people gathered at Gobbler's Knob as members of Punxsutawney Phil's “inner circle” summoned him from his tree stump at dawn to learn if he had seen his shadow.

A major winter storm was expected to begin with heavy snow starting in the Rockies and freezing rain as far south as Texas before it drops snow and ice on the Midwest.

Warming oceans are leading to more low-pressure systems like Saturday’s nor’easter, which brought over a foot of snow and blizzard conditions to the Jersey Shore.

Dangerous wind chills fell to below zero in many locations across the region Sunday after the storm dumped snow from Virginia to Maine.

The NWS said it will conduct further analysis to determine if any inland zones reached blizzard conditions during the nor'easter.

The National Weather Service reported that the nor’easter had slammed coastal communities, with more than 12 inches in Avalon and around Rehoboth Beach.

"If you don't have to be out here, don't come out here," said one man who was trying to make deliveries to seniors.

Even as the snowfall started to ease up by mid-morning, the wind was blowing the snow back onto roads that had been cleared.

The city said it was focusing on snow emergency routes. They say the goal is not to keep streets clear, but passable.

The storm will be the second major one to hit the state’s southernmost county this month. Prepare to be home for a day or two, emergency officials caution.

The Philadelphia region is expecting heavy snow and winds later today into Saturday. Meanwhile, New Jersey’s coast is under a blizzard warning.

A state of emergency will begin at 5 p.m. Friday in New Jersey. State offices to close at 3 p.m

A Blizzard Warning has been issued for areas along the coast, while a Winter Storm Warning will be in effect for much of the Delaware Valley.

The Delaware Valley is under a Winter Weather Advisory until either 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. Thursday, depending on the county.
