Detoured? Best bets for getting around Wilmington

In light of the I-495 bridge closure, the City of Wilmington is encouraging motorists to follow various detours to minimize traffic-related headaches.

The Delaware Department of Transportation made the call on Monday after a bridge inspection revealed satisfactory conditions. Several ramps between Exit 2 and Exit 3 are now closed, including the 12th Street ramp onto I-495 South, the Terminal Avenue ramp onto I-495 North, the US-13 Northbound ramp to I-495 North and the I-295 Southbound ramp to I-495 Northbound.

Emergency repairs are already underway, but motorists will still be able to get around. Here are the city’s suggestions for detoured drivers.

I-495 Southbound at 12th Street:West on 12th Street to Spruce Street south; South on Spruce Street to Christiana Avenue south; South on Christiana Avenue to Terminal Avenue west; West on Terminal Avenue to I-495 south ramp.
