University City District seeks community support for residents displaced by the five-alarm fire Monday night

More than 160 firefighters battled the five-alarm blaze that raged through the Windermere Court Apartments at 48th and Walnut streets. Clouds of black smoke could be seen as far as Center City. The fire was declared under control at 7:25pm.

Many residents left the apartment with just the clothing on their backs and University City District is seeking clothing, coats, shoes, personal hygiene items and any other related items for distribution to these residents through the Salvation Army.

Interested donors can bring items or financial donations directly to the Salvation Army at 5501 Market Street (215-474-1010) or drop them off at UCD during the hours of Monday thru Friday, 8:30am to 5pm. Any financial donations should be given directly to the Salvation Army or the Red Cross. Thank you.
