State to check Sandy pay for Atlantic City schools

The state Education Department will review payments made to Atlantic City school employees during Superstorm Sandy.

The state says there are concerns the payments may have violated rules.

The Press of Atlantic City found more than $166,000 was paid to more than 84 school employees during the weeklong period before and after the 2012 storm. The newspaper found most of the payments were made as double time. Some were made to salaried employees.

The former Pleasantville school superintendent and three employees in Atlantic City have already returned the funds.
