Spotlight shines on Kent County with Dover Days this weekend
More people outside of Kent County may know Dover as a NASCAR stop scheduled for next weekend. But tourism officials hope more will appreciate the capital city with Dover Days this weekend.
Dover Days begins Friday. It’s now in its 78th year and puts the capital city at the center of Delaware state history.
The festival is billed as half street fair and half living history lesson. There are food vendors and children’s ride as well as re-enactments from Revolutionary and Civil War times.
The state museums that surround the green at Legislative mall are open during the weekend and will have special displays.
Lorraine Dion, Kent County visitor spokesperson, says a highlight is the May Pole dance featuring area children. There’s an added event for kids this year: the Hula Hoop competition.
Dion says the city is in full bloom with all of its tulips and is hoping the forecast for calling for no rain will hold up.
Saturday’s events begin at 7am and go up until 10pm. Dover Days wraps up on Sunday with afternoon events at the Old State House.
