Severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m. for Philadelphia and surrounding counties

The National Weather Service storm prediction center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Philadelphia and its surrounding counties.

This warning is for the counties of Philadelphia, Delaware, Chester, Montgomery, Bucks, Mercer, Carbon, Monroe, Berks, Lehigh, Northampton, New Castle, Cecil, and Kent; and includes central and eastern Pennsylvania, northern Delaware, and central, northern and northwest New Jersey.

There are possibilities for thunderstorms containing one inch or larger hail and or winds gusting at least 58 mph (50 knots). 

Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
