Pa. to unveil new grading system for schools
Education officials are set to unveil a new grading system for public schools across Pennsylvania.
The School Performance Profile will offer an overview of academic achievement in every building. It replaces the previous standard known as AYP, or adequate yearly progress.
Acting Education Secretary Carolyn Dumaresq has scheduled a news conference for Wednesday morning in Harrisburg.
The new profiles will be based on data like attendance, participation in standardized testing, graduation rates and closing the achievement gap.
AYP was based solely on student exam scores in math and reading. Pennsylvania isn’t using that benchmark anymore because of a waiver from the federal government.
School profiles will be publicly available. They’ll also be part of the state’s new teacher and principal evaluations.
