Pa. lawmaker to plead guilty in corruption case

Pennsylvania state Sen. Leanna Washington is agreeing to plead guilty in a case in which prosecutors accused her of using her elected office for political and financial gain.
Washington’s lawyer told a Montgomery County judge on Friday that she’ll plead guilty, although exact terms of the plea have yet to be finalized. A hearing is to be scheduled for next week.
The charges against the 69-year-old Democrat include one count each of theft of services and conflict of interest, both felonies.
Washington’s district includes portions of Philadelphia and Montgomery County. She lost her re-election bid in the May 20 primary.
She was accused in March of having used her taxpayer-paid staff to perform political activities, such as arranging an annual fundraiser on her birthday every year.
