New Jersey GOP Assembly campaign facing struggles

Republicans were hopeful they could capture the Assembly but that seems to be slipping beyond reach.

Election Day is a little more than a week away and the GOP is being outspent by Democrats and attacked by a well-heeled interest group. Republicans also suffered the dropout of a candidate in a competitive race because of a raunchy book he wrote.

Experts say the party is languishing in part because Gov. Chris Christie is on the presidential campaign trail and not helping enough.

But Republican Assembly Leader Jon Bramnick says Christie has held four fundraisers and is always supportive.

He says it was always going to difficult to net nine seats from Democratic control.
