Atlantic County woman sentenced to 9 years in fatal highway crash

A woman convicted on several charges stemming from a fatal 2008 crash in Atlantic County has been sentenced to nine years in state prison.

Authorities say 52-year-old Diane Williams of Estell Manor in Atlantic County was driving drunk on Halloween night in 2008 when her vehicle struck a guardrail and collided with another car on Route 557 near milepost 14.6. But at trial, she claimed a passenger who was seriously injured in the crash was actually driving.

The driver of the other car and two passengers in that vehicle were also seriously injured in the accident. One of those passengers, 84-year-old Estella Mills of Weymouth Township, died eight days later from her injuries.

Williams was convicted in June on a vehicular homicide count and three counts of assault by auto.
