Leave your Google Glass at the casino door in A.C.

The new “glasses” from Google already are banned at a Seattle bar. They were not permitted at Google’s own shareholders meeting.

Now, add New Jersey and Pennsylvania casinos to the list of places where you must leave the latest in wearable technology at the door.

The head of New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement issued this warning to Atlantic City’s casinos: “If these eyeglasses were worn during a poker game, they could be used to broadcast a patron’s hand to a confederate or otherwise be used in a collusive manner.” 

David Schwartz of the University of Nevada Las Vegas’ Center for Gaming Research says casinos also have privacy concerns to take into account.

“Also, if casinos have live entertainment, they’re concerned about recording that,” he said.

Pennsylvania’s Gaming Control Board says it plans to simply clarify that the Google Glass is included in its ban of recording devices in the state’s gaming venues.

George Joseph, a gaming expert in Las Vegas who sometimes consults for Pennsylvania, points out that wearing the hot new glasses from Google when you’re cheating at cards would be like wearing a bull’s eye on your forehead.

“Whether you’re getting the information physically, electronically, spiritually — it doesn’t really make a difference how you get the information, it’s still going to show up in the play,” he said.
