Last superstorm-damaged boardwalks getting fixed

The final few Jersey shore boardwalks damaged by Superstorm Sandy are being fixed.

The biggest project still underway is in the Ocean Grove section of Neptune Township, where a protracted funding dispute with the Federal Emergency Management Agency pushed the $2.3 million project back to the second summer after the storm.

Ocean Grove’s work should be finished by fall.

Long Branch’s wooden boardwalk won’t be finished until the fall. It, too, just got funding for the work.

Other shore towns, including Point Pleasant Beach and Ocean City, are rebuilding parts of their boardwalk each year as part of capital improvement plan. Storm damage was repaired last year.

And Seaside Park is racing to rebuild its boardwalk by July 4 after a devastating fire destroyed it last September.
