Fire damages Legislative Hall in Dover

The home of Delaware’s General Assembly suffered some fire, water and smoke damage Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to Dover’s Legislative Hall a little after 2 p.m. Wednesday for a fire at the state house. Capitol Police had already started an evacuation of the three story building when firefighters arrived. Smoke could be seen coming from the building.

A construction crew working in the basement of the building reported a fire in the northern side of Legislative Hall. Firefighters were also directed to the second floor where a room was on fire as well.

Fire, smoke and water damage was reported as prevalent throughout the north side of the building by the Dover Fire Department. The entire building was affected by the smoke.
