Blocked ramp, train wires hampering Philly commute

An overturned truck and downed overhead wires are complicating Christmas Eve travel in the Philadelphia region.

Police say the pickup truck spilled its load around 5:15 a.m. Wednesday on a ramp connecting the westbound Vine Street Expressway and the eastbound Schuylkill Expressway.

The ramp remained closed as of 6:45 a.m., causing delays of about 20 minutes.

Traffic was being diverted onto the westbound Schuylkill and the Ben Franklin Parkway, detouring travelers headed for South Philadelphia and Philadelphia International Airport.

SEPTA says downed overhead wires has cut service on its Media/Elwyn Regional Rail line. Limited service is running between Secane and Philadelphia. Service remains suspended between Secane and Media.

The agency had earlier suspended all service on the Media/Elwyn line.
