Organizers promise biggest Day of Service yet
Another record turnout is being predicted for the Martin Luther King Day of Service in Philadelphia. The January 17th event has gone national, and organizers hope it goes viral with some help from the Internet.
The 16th Annual commeration of the slain civil rights leader through public service projects is expected to top all other years. Todd Bernstein is the organizer of the Martin Luther King Day of Service in the Philadelphia region.
“This time 75 thousand serving in 12 hundred projects,” he says.
Bernstein adds organizers are harnessing the power of social networking, with an iPhone app for people who want to volunteer on the day of the event.
“Any one who has an iPhone an iPod or an iPad will be able to have access to learning about hundreds of projects that that are still available, along with links to facebook and twitter,” says Bernstein.
The service projects will range from projects at Girard College to helping low income residents connect to the internet by giving them computers and access.
