Ailing infrastructure
Listen 00:48:44Guests: Kate Hinds, Siobhan Hughes, Rosabeth Moss Kanter
Last week, commuters using New Jersey Transit and Amtrak experienced long delays because of problems with eighty-year-old wires – some people waited for more than three hours to catch a train. And in Congress this week, the Senate and House are debating spending on infrastructure — fighting over a highway funding bill that is about to expire. To top it all off, America’s roads, bridges, and rails received a D+ grade from the American Society of Civil Engineers in a recent report. So why don’t we invest in our infrastructure? This hour, Marty talks about the Amtrak and NJ Transit troubles with KATE HINDS, transportation reporter for WNYC. Then, Wall Street Journal congressional reporter SIOBHAN HUGHES, Congressional reporter for the Wall Street Journal, updates us on the highway bill before Congress. And ROSABETH MOSS KANTER, professor at Harvard Business School on her book, discusses her book MOVE: Putting America’s Infrastructure Back in the Lead.
