Alzheimer’s and end-of-life decisions

Nurse BARBARA BITROS has had memory problems recently. After a series tests, doctors have diagnosed her with early Alzheimer’s. Through the years Bitros has cared for many Alzheimer’s patients as a hospice nurse and has seen first-hand the effects of the disease. She has made plans to end her life before the disease ravages her mind and body. Today she talks to Marty about that decision and her fear of Alzheimer’s. We’ll also be joined by JASON KARLAWISH, who cares for patients at the Penn Memory Center and is a professor of medicine, medical ethics, and health policy at the University of Pennsylvania.
