Guests: Diane Cardwell, Russ Leslie and Ian Eisenman

Just when you were getting used to compact fluorescents, it now looks like LED bulbs may be eclipsing them. Light-emitting diode bulbs have many advantages over the old incandescent bulbs and CFLs including light quality and energy efficiency. Today, we’ll sort out all the different lighting options and we’ll look at how advanced LED lights can be used for surveillance. Also, not everything is looking brighter – the darkening Arctic and how it’s contributing to climate change. Marty’s guests are DIANE CARDWELL, reporter for the New York Times, RUSS LESLIE, Associate Director of the Lighting Research Center at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and IAN EISENMAN, Assistant Professor at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego.
