Quarry Hill Farm, Harvesting Health

Art of Food — Produced by Monica Rogozinski

When she bought Quarry Hill Farm in 2007, Sloane Six combined her passion for sustainability with her vision for preserving the land and guaranteeing a better food supply for future generations. Her goal was to create a place where she could showcase organically grown produce and pasture-raised meats. As a life-long environmentalist, Six’s goal was to raise the most nutritionally dense and delicious food possible. Just before the sale of Quarry Hill to a real estate developer who was going to build tract housing, Six stepped in and bought the land. She has redeveloped it into the breathtaking farm it is today. As a modern day farmer, Six strives to make Quarry Hill a place you can trust, where agricultural production is safe, and food is raised naturally, without any additives, pesticides, or preservatives. All of the animals are grass fed and raised on organic soil. Sloane works the farm, religiously checking to make sure everything is growing and all the animals are happy and healthy.

In addition, Six is in the process of renovating the historic Mainland Inn, in Harleysville, PA. It is set to open soon and will showcase everything raised on Quarry HIll Farm. Quarry Hill Farm is located at 620 Quarry Road in Harleysville, PA.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program

Quarry Hill Farm runs a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program available by subscription. A produce subscription, designed to meet the needs of an average family, is $25 per week. Individual produce selections are now available, too. You can also buy an egg share for $120 – a really good deal, because Quarry Hill’s eggs have one-third the amount of cholesterol than normal eggs, ten times the vitamins, and a richness of omega 3 and 6! To purchase a subscription, visit http://www.quarryhillfarm.net/csa-signup-form.

On-Site Shopping

Quarry Hill Farm’s on site farm market it’s open every Wednesday between 4 and 6 pm, and Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm, and it’s brimful of wonders: chicken, beef steak, lamb, goat, ground beef, beef roasts, eggs, grade b maple syrup, all-natural pet food, honey, pork products, guinea hen, turkey, and duck, plus seasonal vegetables and herbs. Much more fun than a supermarket – and much tastier products. Discounts are available to chefs and restaurateurs who buy in bulk.

Mainland Inn: A Taste of Quarry Hill Farm

Owner Sloane Six wants to provide a taste of Quarry Hill’s bounty in a restaurant designed to showcase the unparalleled ingredients produced at her farm. That’s why, with the encouragement of her son Skylar, she’ll be opening Mainland Inn on eight beautiful acres, just down the road. Here, in a lovingly-renovated stone building situated within the Bergy Bridge Historic District, Executive Chef Ezra Duker – whose resume includes French Laundry, Morimoto Napa, The Truffle Pig in Steamboat, Colorado, and Block 16 in Vail, Colorado — will create unique and exciting recipes from Quarry Hill’s own organic products. And everything will be served in a setting that is both relaxed and elegant.
