Greensky: Not your daddy’s bluegrass
ListenThe sky was green and the grass was blue in Kalamazoo in the year 2000. That’s when David Bruzza, Paul Hoffman and Michael Bont put together a quintet called Greensky Bluegrass, soon adding Michael Devol and Havertown, Pennsylvania, native Anders Beck.
Now some 16 years and countless thousands of miles later, the group graciously brought their instruments to our studio earlier this month, prior to performing in Philadelphia.
The band spoke with NewsWorks Tonight host Dave Heller, who learned that driving from town to town on tour, the band listened to public radio. A portion of a poignant This American Life episode called “What Happened At Dos Erres” inspired a song and the title of their latest studio album “If Sorrows Swim.”
