Watching TV you hate, then comedian Doug Stanhope
Listen 00:48:43Guests: Erik Adams, Megan McLachlan, Doug Stanhope
You hate a show and you watch every week. This is the phenomenon known as hate-watching – getting some sick, enigmatic pleasure out of loving to loathe. Whether it’s the irredeemable characters, the over-the-top plots, the terrible production quality, or an espousing of despicable values, there are many reasons some people tune into programs that they know are terrible. On today’s show, we discuss the shows people hate-watch, and why people find some enjoyment in this seemingly contradictory activity. We’ll talk with ERIK ADAMS, TV editor for The A.V. Club and with entertainment writer MEGAN McLACHLAN. Then, producer Jon Ehrens talks with comedian DOUG STANHOPE. They discussed his comedy, his new memoir, and how he assisted his dying mother’s suicide.
