Trump’s feud with activist athletes
Listen 49:31Guests: Jesse Washington, Rich Lowry, Richard Allen Smith
This Sunday, millions of Americans will be tuning in to watch football, but the National Anthem may end up being the main event for many of these games. Since President Trump called players who kneel during the National Anthem “sons of bitches,” adding that team owners should fire them, the national debate over the appropriateness of protesting the Anthem, and the flag. Initially intended to bring attention to police brutality of the African-American community, now the conversation has now shifted to patriotism, as well as the right to protest and free speech. Today on the show, we’ll discuss all of this with JESSE WASHINGTON, senior writer for ESPN’s The Undefeated, and with RICH LOWRY, editor of National Review. We’ll also hear from RICHARD ALLEN SMITH, a veteran and one of the authors of an open letter in support of Colin Kaepernick.
