The Latest attempt to Repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell: The political, military and legal perspectives
ListenHour 1
Last week Federal judge Virginia Phillips ordered the Pentagon to immediately stop enforcing its 17-year old ban on gays serving openly in the military. The President, who is in favor of ending the ban, the Justice Department and the Pentagon all would like more time to implement this newest attempt to repeal the law. Meanwhile, in September, a filibuster led by John McCain prevented Senate debate on the Defense Authorization Act which included an amendment to repeal the law. We’ll explore the political challenges with JOSH GERSTEIN from Politico.com, the military perspective with Stars and Stripes writer LEO SHANE, and the legal landscape with law professor and former Air Force Captain DIANE MAZUR.
