A voter ID bill could become law in Pennsylvania that would require residents to show a valid photo ID before they can cast their vote. The Senate passed the bill last week and now the House is debating the House Bill 934. Governor Tom Corbett has also indicated that he supports the measure. But Pennsylvania isn’t the only state debating tighter voting requirements – 32 states are looking at similar measures this year. Proponents of the voter ID law say that requiring identification will prevent voter fraud and ensure election integrity; opponents argue that the bill is a blow to voting rights and is a political strategy designed to prevent the poor and the elderly from voting. Today we’ll debate the voter ID bill with LINDA KERNS, a lawyer and co-chair of the Southeastern Pennsylvania chapter of the Republican National Lawyers Association, and VIC WALCZAK, the Legal Director of the ACLU Pennsylvania.
