Behind the Scenes of Philadelphia Filmmaking
ListenHour 2
It’s 1976 in Philadelphia and a former Black Panther comes home to reconcile some unresolved issues and relationships. This sets the stage for Philadelphia filmmaker TANYA HAMILTON’s new film, “Night Catches Us,” which she wrote, directed and produced. Hamilton, a PEW fellowship
recipient with several films under her belt, worked on this film for 10 years, and enlisted actors Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker) and Kerry Washington (Ray), as well as Philadelphia’s The Roots to score the film. “Night Catches Us” was featured in the recent Philadelphia Film Festival and will be nationally released December 3rd. Then we’ll talk to CHRISTINA WEISS LURIE, producer of the new documentary, “Inside Job,” about the global economic crisis of 2008 and the history of the United States banking and regulatory system. Lurie has produced many films, including 1990’s “I Love You to Death.” She’s the co-owner of the Philadelphia Eagles. “Inside Job” is now playing in theaters around the country.
