A local rower-turned-filmmaker goes “Backwards”
ListenHour 2
A promising Olympic rowing candidate is chosen, yet again, as an alternate for the U.S. team, and quits, goes home and tries to reconcile her rowing dreams and family life, as she coaches crew at her alma mater. Rowing is close and dear to Philadelphia – based filmmaker SARAH MEGAN THOMAS, who wrote, produced and co-stars in the new film, Backwards. Thomas will help us understand the sacrifices behind and obsession with the sport when she comes in with the film’s director, BEN HICKERNELL, who wrote, produced and directed the 2010 independent feature film, Lebanon, PA. Backwards co-star’s James Van Der Beek (“Dawson’s Creek”) and features many Philadelphia interior and exterior shots including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Main Line. Backwards opens September 21st, and there is an official Philadelphia premier on Thursday, September 20th at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
