Typewriter enthusiasts gather at Manayunk’s Pretzel Park [gallery]

Typewriter enthusiasts, collectors and fans came together in Manayunk’s Pretzel Park on Saturday to trade tip and spend the day admiring the vintage machines.

The “Typewriter Jam Session,” organized by Michael McGettigan, a Northern Liberties bike shop owner, offered attendees the chance to participate in a typewriter swap meet and consult with an experienced typewriter technician.

The day also included a typewriting speed contest and a letter-typing session.

“Just as vinyl records have regained their mojo in a digital world, these miniature printing presses are attracting a new group of fans, many less than half the age of the typewriters they’ve lovingly restored,” said McGettigan.
